Honda TALON 1000R Key Features

POWERFUL 999cc TWIN-CYLINDER ENGINE

Sport side-by-sides need power, and you’ll surely find the Honda Talon 1000R Side-by-Side (SxS) UTV that offers plenty of it.

The Talon 1000R’s 999cc liquid-cooled inline twin produces the kind of powerful torque and quick-revving horsepower you would hope from a flagship sport model but is equally responsive in lower revs and in the critical midrange too.

Set longitudinally in the chassis and handled by our sophisticated PGM-FI engine-mapping system, it produces the class no other side-by-side can match.

AUTOMATIC SIX-SPEED DCT TRANSMISSION

The Honda Talon 1000R Side-by-Side (SxS) UTV convenience of an automatic with the manual’s control, strength, and efficiency, our Honda gear-driven DCT lets you drive the way you want.

Select between manual mode or fully automatic. Plus, the addition of Sport Mode increases the fun, full-performance driving knowledge, shifting at higher RPMs for spirited.

DCT puts you in control as to what engine speed you like and what gear ratio. Or you can let it do all the thinking for you. You also get genuine engine braking and more efficient power delivery than a belt-driven CVT.

FOX LIVE VALVE SUSPENSION

The Honda Talon 1000R FOX Live Valve and Talon 1000R Special Edition feature FOX Live Valve suspension with 2.5-inch shocks on all four wheels.

The Honda Talon 1000R system changes damping on each shock independently, automatically, and up to 200 times a second for superior ride quality, less pitch, and rollover on all terrain.

DRIVER/PASSENGER PROTECTION

The Honda Talon 1000R’s Occupant Protection Structure uses large-diameter tubing and meets ISO’s rollover protection standard.

The Honda Talon 1000R standard-equipment hard doors and quick-clip side nets help keep debris from entering the cabin.

Auto-style three-point seatbelts are fitted with an emergency locking retractor mechanism to help optimize passenger security. (The Honda Talon 1000R’s seats are also four-point compatible for match use.)

OIL and Trans oil changes are a stupid design. Both engine and trans have filters however they are not conventional screw on external filters. Instead, internal very old school cartridge element filters. more time to change and many and I mean many where the aluminum caps are seized from oxidation and quite a pain to take apart. almost doubles labor time for a simple oil change. Also Honda being Honda of course the O ring does not come included with the OEM Honda filter.. Costs extra.. I also don’t like the fact that Honda Does not use modern Synthetic oil. ?? basically just to do a what should be simple oil change is a pain in the a$$ and very expensive if the oil, filters, crush washers and o rings are bought at a dealership. I cant even imagine the labor rates they must charge ????

I always loved Honda Dirt Bikes and ATV’S IE the 250R quad and owned CR 250’s since 1979 The old Elsinor’s but with the SXS’s I hate the Pioneer hands down, it’s an ugly machine and reference my prior post on simple maintenance you have to be a 20 yr old contortionist to bend into and under the tilt bed to even get to the oil fill . The Talon however is designed to be more easily modified for wiring switches I.E dash board accessibility. The Talon is also allot easier change oil and simple general maintenance. I like the Talon although way under HP as compared to Polaris or Canned Ham’s but I am hopefully waiting for them to build a 999CC Turbo in the next couple years …
